There are many ways in which to help your local hospice – making a donation, giving your time or expertise or by sharing your experience and helping others to understand what hospice is about.
All hospice care and support is provided free of charge, about 50% of funding comes from Government with the remainder from the local local community.
As the national organisation for all hospices, Hospice New Zealand invests more than $800,000 each year supporting its members.
To do this they must raise more than $500,000. Any donation you give to assist them with these projects enhances a hospices infrastructure enabling them to provide the very best care for people who are dying.

Here are a couple of ideas for supporting hospice in addition to paying out cash. Your local hospice will have hundreds of roles of volunteers – just contact them to see how you can help.
If you can’t make a regular commitment to time – we all have businesses to run don’t we? – many hospices run one off events which need help just for a day. It might be to help with car parking or with the set up and break down of an event.
How about your whole BNI group volunteering to take one of these roles on for the day?
Something completely different – if you or your partner have a creative streak, how about entering the Warkworth Wellsford Hospice Catwalk Arts event – you can find out more at http://www.catwalkarts.com . Now in its third year, this is a great event.
Hi Miles,
I totally agree with you on this. My belief is that we all need to align ourselves with some form of organisation – be it hospice or something else – and to start to get involved. The old ways of making a donation or perhaps putting money in the Sunday collection no longer cuts it. Sue & I attended a very moving Mothers Day service at the West Auckland Hospice on Sunday – and are due to have a visit and look around the Hospice on Thursday. On Friday we will be shaking the collection tin in Titirangi Village for a couple of hours. Thanks for your suggestions and for posting them to the site.
All the best,
g
