Hospice New Zealand has just circulated their latest newsletter – and for anyone not on the mailing list I thought I would post a copy to the blog:
Thanks to the generosity of our national partner BNI, Hospice NZ has been able to award 10 people from around the country scholarships to attend a variety of conferences.
This is the third year that BNI has provided funds to support the professional development of hospice staff. Thanks to this support people like Jo Pavelitch, Volunteer Services Manager at Hospice South Auckland will be attending the Volunteering New Zealand Conference in Wellington later this month.
“This will be my very first Volunteering New Zealand Conference and I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend. I’m absolutely thrilled to be chosen and I look forward to the experience ahead and the knowledge I will bring back with me!” said Jo.
As well as the Volunteering New Zealand Conference successful candidates will be going to the Palliative Care Nurses NZ Conference, Psychosocial Oncology New Zealand Conference, and the Australia NZ Society of Palliative Medicine Conference.
BNI Chapters throughout the country work with local hospices on a regular basis, raising over $120,000 during the past three years of the partnership. Building on their philosophy of “givers gain” BNI head office recently made an extra special gift to mark their 10th birthday of business in New Zealand, presenting a cheque for $21,000 at their breakfast celebrations.
” The support BNI provides nationally through the Hospice NZ Scholarship Programme and at a community level through our ongoing partnerships with Chapters really does make a difference to patients and families using hospice services. They are outstanding supporters of our work” said Mary Schumacher, Chief Executive of Hospice New Zealand.
