Make your leadership team a gold medal winning one!

by BNI New Zealand

It’s an exciting time in New Zealand with our athletes bringing home gold from the Olympics in Rio. It’s also an exciting time for us at BNI because our chapters are gearing up to choose their Leadership Teams for the new term. Chapters are electing Presidents, Vice Presidents, Treasurers, Education Coordinators and Visitor Hosts.

Leadership

Why should you step up to take a Leadership Role in your chapter?

Too often members feel that they aren’t suitable for a leadership role as they don’t necessarily have the traditional qualities associated with leadership. If you feel hesitant about leadership, remember that there are many different ways to lead. These are some of the individual qualities that are associated with the roles:

  1. President: Driven, ambitious, a leader, a role model but dedicated to the team.
  2. Vice President: Detail orientated, a team player, a great coordinator.
  3. Treasurer: Again detail orientated.
  4. Education Coordinator: An interest in professional growth and new developments in networking.
  5. Visitor Hosts: Outgoing and personable.

Members who have  leadership have gained great benefits from this experience. They’ve learnt new things about their interpersonal skills and have grown their working relationships with the other members on the Leadership Team. Serving on your chapter’s Leadership Team develops your abilities as a leader. It may also bring you more business, because it increases your professional credibility and profile.

Every Leadership Team has its own approach and the tone of the Leadership Team affects the tone of the chapter. Remember:

  • Accountability is the key to successful chapters.
  • Leadership Teams are the key to accountability.
  • People who make good leadership team members make good leaders in general.

As we cheer on our athletes let’s do the same for our new Leadership Teams and appreciate the energy they will bring to the chapter!

Take a moment to consider how you can contribute to BNI leadership in some way. It may be just supporting the current team or putting your own hand up for leadership in the future.
