Madre of the Military, Sherri Weinberg – the one-eyed, narrow minded, bigoted, pacifist Presbyterian Minister who became the first Woman Chaplain at Waiouru in the NZ Army. Brought up in the dark depths of the King Country her hobbies were pig hunting and rugby. And you thought you had problems!
Last week I attended a BNI Director Breakfast held at Auckland Viaduct and organised by Mariska Mannes. Mariska looks after five BNI chapters and organised a joint breakfast – attended by some 70 members.
The guest speaker was ‘Madre of the Military’, Sherri Weinberg – the one-eyed, narrow minded, bigoted, pacifist Presbyterian Minister who became the first Woman Chaplain at Waiouru in the NZ Army. Brought up in the dark depths of the King Country her hobbies were pig hunting and rugby. And you thought you had problems!
Recognition Awards were given out to :
Darryl Sang – BNI Epsom for his hot ‘dancing shoes’ -ie the number of ‘one on one’s’ he does!
Matt Carroll – BNI Central for his memory hook – if you go and see him he’ll turn you on!
Craig Hewett – BNI Central – for the number of visitors he brings
Neil Gillespie – great all-rounder, receives lots of referrals – must be doing something right 🙂
Tanya Greedy – BNI Achiever – great commitment to getting the new chapter up and running – now at 30 members.
Kevin Knowles – (absent) 10 yr anniversary and great commitment to the chapter BNI Takapuna
At the end of the breakfast a collection was made for Christchurch and a total of $332 was raised – which will be doubled up to $664 thanks to Dr Ivan Misner’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Attended the breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to Mariska for setting it up.
Very important to keep your mind open to opportunities and understand them before possibly deciding to not act on them or take advantage of them.
Thanks Tanya,
And great to see that you have added the BNI logo to your website 🙂

Graham Southwell’s nasty comments about the guest speaker beggar belief. How unprofessional! A
Great initiative Mariska… I might have to look at this for my areas.
Well done!
OOps – I guess that my comments could be taken the wrong way! Angela – you needed to be there to appreciate that what I was saying was actually paraphrasing what Sherri said – she has a very self effacing style that is part of her charm. Sorry for any offense my article may have caused you 🙁
Thanks for the clarification Graham. Sherri is a larger than life character to be sure! My apologies for jumping to the wrong conclusion.
