Obligation vs Opportunity….

by BNI New Zealand

Some people regard a half-filled glass as half empty, some regard it as half full, they could be called pessimists or optimists.

If that is true, how does being a pessimist or optimist impact on their world?

Statistically optimists earn more than pessimists, mostly because they see more options in negative situations.

Half Full

In 2019 if you want to become more of an optimist, here is a way to look at how you perceive your business or personal life and to change that perception over time.

For example, if a customer unexpectedly calls you, do you regard it as an obligation to answer it and deal with it as quickly as possible to get on with your day?

Or do you regard it as an opportunity to serve, earn, learn, influence, network, encourage or to teach?

The difference isn’t the caller but how you respond and what can come from that response. Responding in a positive manner to every situation is a much more optimistic way to live your life.

How does this relate to your participation in BNI?

Do you view the need to attend the meeting, find referrals, have one to ones, bring visitors, be on the leadership team or complete training or content through BNI University as an obligation or an opportunity?

Obviously, they are all opportunities and if treated as such can bring many rewards.

So how would it be this year to have a sign on your wall with the question: “Obligation or Opportunity?”
