Recently, Auckland Director Consultant Mariska Mannes motivated one of her chapters in a creative and inspiring way. She presented t-shirts to members of the chapter with a stylish steam train and mottos like “I think I can” and “I can.”
Why the train analogy? It came from an overseas BNI blog that provides some great pointers on powerful leadership.
If you have a vision that you are, or will become, the fastest train on the tracks, and then you let everyone know what that vision looks like or can become. When the train shows up at the station you’ll have people around you CHOOSING to get onboard.
When you pull into the station it’s often the high performers that are the first ones to get onboard. They always want to get somewhere faster, achieve more and become greater. THEY SEE THE VISION, buy into it and want to get there faster. Not only will they get on your train because they clearly see and buy into what it stands for, but they will get behind your train where you as a great leader are already pushing to help you make it go faster. Most high performers are so driven that they’ll often want to get to THE VISION even faster and will be pushing you and the train to even higher heights.
As leader within your business, your personal life and in BNI you can help those around you to become high performers. Here are 3 ways you can do this:
- Leaders inspire more than drive. Leaders in high performance teams know how to create energy and enthusiasm in the team.
- Leaders resolve conflict and increase cooperation. Conflict can tear teams apart – leaders need to work to resolve differences quickly and promote cooperation.
- Leaders communicate the vision and direction. Keep those around you focused on the vision; stay on message and keep people thinking about your overall goals and mission.
Why not set some goals and visions for the rest of 2017 today! Think about your business, your personal life and your BNI chapter. You can help lead the way in many areas and encourage others around you to become high performers who can also ride the success train in 2017. Choo Choo!
