At BNI we have members from all sorts of industries. Tradespeople, those from the property and finance industries, creatives and many more. They all bring something different to our meetings.
Those that are in creative industries: digital marketing, branding and film production for example; can often bring a different perspective to their 60 second presentations and time at BNI. This perspective is useful for all members to consider, as those in the creative industries often need to inspire members to get them excited about their businesses. This takes time and requires thought.
One young BNI member – Fraser Grut from BNI Titirangi – has a film production company and quite a different “take” on presenting his 60 seconds at his chapter.
His method is obviously working because he frequently takes home the cup for the best 60 second speaker in his chapter. He shares 4 tips on how you can introduce some creativity into your 60 seconds.
- See your 60 seconds as the best opportunity for the week – not a chore. This is your opportunity to shine. If you’re feeling nervous, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It shows that the adrenaline is flowing and you are primed for the opportunity.
- Yes, you’ve heard it before but plan each week. Every presentation is a production so make sure your 60 seconds is creative, relevant, engaging and fresh each week.
- Why not try selling your business by selling yourself? Connect with your audience with a personal story about your own journey. Story telling is a great way to introduce your offering in a memorable and unique way.
- Treat your 60 seconds as an open presentation space that you can fill in to share and realise your dreams. Try to come up with new content that inspires or challenges your chapter members. Get them thinking about their dreams and how they can become reality. Remember creating trust and credibility can also be about inspiring others.
People from the creative industries can also make for great talent to add to your next leadership team. There isn’t just one way to work in business or BNI and creative people can illuminate different ways to connect and network.
