Wanted! – BNI Business Mentors for our Sportspeople

by BNI New Zealand

I have been contacted by the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association who are interested in forming a relationship with BNI. They are looking for new mentors to be part of its career transition programme.  This programme has run for the last three years and includes 250 individual mentors and around 20 key businesses across New Zealand.  Over this time around 60 professional athletes have completed 300 meetings with mentors.  These meetings give players an opportunity to reflect on a career outside sport, learn and become more confident in business and explore different industries of interest.  It also gives athletes a good steer on what skills and networks they should develop during their cricketing career.  Due to increased demand the Players’ Association would like to broaden the network and is requesting help from senior managers experienced in mentoring who are prepared to volunteer around 10 hours per year.  This demand has come from a range of new sports that are keen to link with a business network on behalf of their athletes.  If this appeals, the Association would like to hear from these individuals and businesses that may have an interest in working with players and their long-term career transition.

If you would like to work with some of our best athletes in this way, please contact: Aidan Hobson, Career and Personal Development Manager, NZCPA aidan.hobson@nzcpa.co.nz or 021 455677.

Thanks Graham

I have also e-mailed Aiden to offer my career book The Naked Career which is ideal to help with these transitions.

I already participate in this programme for NZ Cricket Players Association and find it very rewarding work.
