BNI & ‘Word of Mouth’ Marketing

by BNI New Zealand

Many readers will know that BNI HQ is currently engaged in a major website project across the entire organisation, to include an on line ‘Social Networking’ platform.   The project is being headed up by Beth Anderson who is a contributor to this blog and is also a long term BNI member in the US. I came across an interview with Beth via the Twitter network and thought that this would be a great way of updating BNI members as to what is in the pipeline.

“Beth Anderson is a website designer and developer by trade, and credits much of her success to the lessons learned through her participation in the world’s largest business networking system BNI or Business Network International. Here are some of the questions that guided the segment with Beth:

1. You’ve credited BNI as responsible for the growth, in large part, for your own business. When was your very first contact with BNI, and what about it captivated you?

2. When you say Visibility + Credibility= Profitability—-I think you’re describing the nature of ‘word of mouth’ – do I have that correct?

3. Why does ‘word of mouth’ work so well in small business?

4. BNI—was created as a high contact networking system. You’re heading up the technology component of the organization—-is it a unique challenge to create (an online social networking platform) for an arguably “off-line” business model?

5. BNI Connect—in general how will it work to help the BNI Membership? What can members expect?

6. Is OrgTrack working exclusively on BNI, or do you have other clients and projects going? Listen to the Inteview

WOW how long has BNI been around? and they finally got on the eight ball on the social networking…Their marketing material is so outdated. It looks like it is from the 1980’s. I looked into joining a BNI group and opted out because of how expensive it was. I decided to join TheBIZSociety.com because they offered alot more for your buck. They also already have a social networking platform.

Social networking is a great way to get your name out there on the web. However, this has been going on for quite some time now and their just now getting the concept. I found a website that I have been thoroughly impressed with as far as the social networking platform they have established. The bizsociety.com is a GREAT organization.

More from the Bizsociety 🙂 Happy to post their comments and to allow them to promote their website on the BNI NZ blog, but I wonder if anyone has ever told them that bagging the competition is not the way to “win friends and influence people!”

BNI is about generating new business for its members, and not about social neworking. Social networking is great through Facebook, a truly great social networking platform!
