Is your 60-second presentation a fox or a lion?

There’s an Aesop’s fable about a lioness and a vixen who were comparing their young…

The vixen said how beautiful her litter of cubs were, and remarked sneeringly that the lioness only ever had one cub.

“Ah yes,” said the lioness, “but that one is a lion…”

The message is simple and succinct – quality always trumps quantity, so don’t cram your 60 second with multiple details.

You have just 60 seconds to deliver your message to your BNI sales team, and in that one minute you have to get attention, identify yourself and what you do, be understood, be memorable and finish with a powerful call to action…

It’s true that you only get one chance once a week to address your chapter, but making the most of it is not about packing in as much as possible – multiple benefits, multiple referral requests and talking about two, three, four or five different points.

When it comes to a good 60-second presentation, less is definitely better quality.

Don’t forget that while you get one chance to address your chapter, the rest of the room is…

  • Thinking about what they’re going to say for their 60 seconds
  • Enjoying that scrumptious mouthful of breakfast or a hot coffee
  • Distracted by a noise, a cough, perhaps a fly or two and somebody walking past

To deliver a succinct, memorable 60 second presentation, keep it simple and make one powerful point – repeat if necessary – and finish with a distinct referral request.

For example, perhaps you’re a motor repair business that collects the vehicle from the customer’s place of work and then returns it once the work is done.

Don’t spend your 60-second telling us that you service vehicles, carry out WOFs, tune performance cars, collect and return customer vehicles and that you have a special diagnostic machine.

Rather, make each one of those a point to deliver on a specific day.

Week 1: Free vehicle collection service

Week 2: Super duper diagnostic machine

Week 3: Performance car tuning service

Week 4: WOF special offer

To be memorable, make one powerful point and finish with one specific referral request.
