Success might not be so much about going the extra mile, as just a little shift of one degree.
Perhaps you’ve seen the video…
At 99 degrees water is hot, but at 100 degrees it boils. Boiling water creates steam and with steam you can power a locomotive – the difference between hot and unstoppable momentum? Just one degree.
There is a small degree of difference between failure and success, but such a gulf between the results.
At the Formula One the average margin of victory for the past 10 years has been 1.54 seconds, but the winner takes home $US1,278,813. Second prize gets just $US621,321 – that’s a difference of $657, 492 for less than two seconds.
The difference between achieving a successful return on investment for your BNI efforts, or failing, may be as little as one degree – in attitude, in activity, in practice.
That one degree could be as simple as:
- One extra dance a week
- Preparing for your 60 second presentation (instead of thinking it up during the meeting)
- Taking time to connect with somebody you don’t normally gravitate towards
- Changing where you sit (instead of the same place ever week)
- Taking the decision to uncover one referral opportunity from every second person you meet
- Pausing to compliment somebody in your chapter for a job well done
Ask yourself: “What can you I do better? ” or “What have I never done?”
The expression ‘doing the same thing just gets you more of the same’ is particularly pertinent here. Success is a question of tweaks, adjustments and slight shifts – even in attitude.
Real success may be closer than you think.
