A BNI North City Chapter recently organised a membership drive evening with guest speaker New Zealand All Whites and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricky Herbert and as a result managed to secure interest from six prospective new members.
Education coordinator at the time, Geoff Mowday – who occupies the marketing and communications category in the chapter – says the event attracted about 50 people who wanted to hear Ricky Herbert talk about his experiences, and there was also a prize draw – as a means to collect the details of prospective new members.
“There was catering and drinks and members who wanted to – there were about ten – each put up a little stand with information and brochures about their businesses.
Geoff says members were given six tickets and the option to sell those tickets or pay for them out of their own pockets so that they could give them away as promotional gifts.
“Ricky Herbert conducted a question and answer session during which he answered between 25 and 30 questions, with particular focus on the similarities between running a football team and running a business.
“Ricky Herbert was a good draw card, although we know that the success of any recruiting drive is only as good as the follow-up.”
The event was held at the Mana Cruising Club.
