Being in business is all about cultivating and maintaining relationships. As we tend to these relationships, over time they start to yield results. Power Teams are groups of related businesses that exist within a chapter and cross refer business to one another. When I was a member in London – I set up the Property Power Team – I invited people I knew and was already doing business with, and new people I wanted to get to know. By meeting with them every week I was able to keep the relationships alive and productive.
If you start to think of your chapter along these lines – as ways to cultivate and maintain relationships – inviting visitors and attending every week yourself becomes a natural part of your marketing activities. What better way to promote yourself and your business than inviting prospects; clients, customers or related business people – to come and meet a group of local business people who know, like and respect you. If they visit – they will see you in a different light – especially if they get business! If they join – even better. However even if they decide that BNI is not for them – they will go away with a totally different impression of you. Remember – “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care”. When you take the time to invite people you know (or want to know) to meet some local businesses in their area – you are demonstrating that you care. Why not start to think about who you would like to be seeing every week as a way of developing your network and invite them to come and visit your chapter.

Graham, thanks for posting this video by Lawrence. This is the best video I’ve ever seen done about the value of PowerTeams in BNI. It is also very funny!
I hope everyone enjoys Lawrence’s video (by the way – he’s a member in the UK).
All the best.

Thanks Ivan – I agree about the video. I am a big fan of putting videos and other material together that has a wider appeal than just BNI – such that others may start to forward things to their contacts outside of BNI and to reach out to a greater audience.
