MEDIA RELEASE: Christchurch – Monday December 1st 2014 – A cheque for $18,181.24 raised for the Nurse Maude Hospice at a recent fundraising event – the Nurse Maude Black Tie Charity evening – will be presented at a special breakfast at Rydges Latimer Square on Tuesday December 2nd. This phenomenal amount was raised by networking organisation BNI.

The Nurse Maude Black Tie Charity event marked the first time business organisation BNI New Zealand (Business Network International) had formed a strategic relationship with the hospice.

The collaboration with BNI also opens the door for the Nurse Maude Hospice to reach a wider range of businesses in Christchurch and allows BNI to refine a model of strategic partnership that can be replicated in other areas of the country.

All of the money raised at the charity event goes to Nurse Maude Hospice. Sue Bramwell, the General Manager of Marketing at Nurse Maude, says the significant donations raised by BNI add considerably to the organisation’s other fundraising efforts, supporting the Nurse Maude Hospice to provide hospice palliative care and support free of charge to patients and their families in the Canterbury region.

“Our partnership with BNI has been enormously successful over the years,” Sue says. “This has become formalised with our signature fundraising event the Nurse Maude Black Tie Charity evening and the exceptional result is due to the huge effort BNI committed to this event.”

Critical Nurse Manager for Nurse Maude Hospice, Jane Rollings, will be representing Nurse Maude at the Big Breakfast on Tuesday to receive the cheque and express the thanks for all at Nurse Maude.

“Jane is delighted to represent us at the breakfast,” Sue says. “She, the Chief Executive and the Board of Nurse Maude are all thrilled with the outcome of the Black Tie event and the money will be used to rebuild and expand the Nurse Maude Hospice in 2015.”

Nick Greenwood, one of the Regional Director Consultants for BNI New Zealand in Christchurch, says the Black Tie event was a huge success because of the hard work of BNI members and businesses in the Canterbury region. “So many different organisations came to the party with great donations for our auctions,” he says. “BNI members and other Director Consultants like Alison Poulter stepped up to the plate and provided massive support for the event.”

Samuel Gibson, who works for RCR Energy, will speak at the breakfast. He will tell his inspirational story of overcoming the challenge of a rare bone disorder that makes his bones very brittle. Samuel is confined to a wheelchair and because he found this constrictive, invented one that is now distributed internationally.
