Christchurch – Monday 9th November, 2015 – Business networking group BNI New Zealand is organising the Christchurch Big Breakfast event to be held at Rydges Latimer on 25th November. At the event, former New Zealand Police Detective now author and founder of a group to combat sex trafficking, Daniel Walker, will tell his fascinating story and discuss the power of networks to literally change lives.

Daniel Walker is a former New Zealand Police Detective and has more than twenty years’ experience as a criminal investigator. For seven years Daniel has worked exclusively in the international arena investigating the sexual exploitation and trafficking of women and children in more than a dozen countries.

Working on a covert basis Daniel infiltrated the organised criminal networks responsible for the trafficking of women and children into the global multi-billion dollar commercial sex industry. His efforts resulted in the rescue of many hundreds of victims as well as the successful prosecution of numerous perpetrators. Walker has written a book about his experiences and in 2012 he founded Nvader, a New Zealand initiative designed to effectively combat human trafficking around the world.

“Sex trafficking is modern day slavery,” Daniel says. “Every year approximately two million women and children are deceived and coerced into the commercial sex industry. Only one out of 100 victims is ever rescued and less that 0.5% of all victims participate in any kind of judicial procedure.” The organisation Daniel founded has three goals: rescue victims of sex trafficking, facilitate the prosecution of offenders and empower individuals and communities to make sex trafficking culturally intolerable.

It’s this third point that Daniel says shares a strong affinity with BNI and especially the concept of Givers Gain. “The type of networking model BNI uses is the same as our organisation,” Daniel says. “We use networking to empower individuals and actually change lives by make sex trafficking culturally unacceptable. A strong network can do more than just build businesses; it can also affect an entire community.”

During his presentation at the Big Breakfast Daniel will tell his fascinating life story as well as discussing how businesses and individuals can tackle social issues together and transform society.
