Not one but two BNI members were pivotal in the publication of a book launched recently by the Governor-General, Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand.
Lynnaire Johnston (Octagon BNI) wrote and Marilyn Bakker (Newmarket BNI) designed and organised the printing of A Horse Tale, a comprehensive history of the country’s largest riding for the disabled centre, Ambury Park Riding Centre in Mangere, Auckland.
The book outlines the up and downs, challenges and highlights which have led to the Centre becoming the premier provider of riding therapy programmes in the South Pacific.
Writing it required innumerable hours interviewing current and previous staff members, students and volunteers, many of whom have enjoyed very long associations with Ambury Park.
The launch brought together many of these people, plus representatives of the organisations that support the Centre, to celebrate the ongoing success of the organisation.
This is the second time these two long-time BNI members have worked together on a book project.
In 2010 Marilyn published her first children’s book, Danger at Devil’s Cove (www.marilynjbakker.com), which was edited by Lynnaire and won Marilyn a print award. Marilyn is currently hard at work on a sequel.
A Horse Tale is available for sale at www.thebestlittlebookstore.co.nz with proceeds going to Ambury Park Riding Centre.
