Networking “Across the Universe”

by BNI New Zealand

bni2.jpg  Last month we held a BNI Directors meeting in Auckland.  It never ceases to amaze me how we can assemble our team of 17 Directors from across the entire country and have them all arrive in Auckland within half an hour of each other.  One of the things we were doing at the meeting was workshopping the ‘Power Teams’ presentations for the Directors, and we had a presentation skills workshop from Kirstie O’Sullivan of Bold Communications.

As part of the workshop, I found myself being asked to give an impromptu presentation for three minutes on something I am passionate about.  My topic was the concept of ‘Givers Gain’ – and how we have the opportunity in BNI to lead the way into a new paradigm.  The old business model that we have all grown so accustomed to – the ‘dog eat dog/survival of the fittest’ approach to business is clearly in breakdown – and it is not just at a business level, it is also happening in our communities.  Imagine how different the world could be if we were to find a way to bring the values of BNI – that of “winning through sharing” to the greater community.

Well – they say that if you put it out there – the Universe will provide and this seems to be happening.  Out of left field I was asked if I would introduce Deputy Prime Minister – Bill English – as part of a Big Breakfast that was being held in Rotorua – and you will not be surprised to hear that I took the opportunity to tell those present of my dream and to invite Bill English to lead the country into a new paradigm.  Will anything happen – time will tell, but I thought that it was a great start 🙂
