Three quick fire 60 second primers

by BNI New Zealand

When next you’re stuck for ideas for a good 60 second presentation, try using one of these three primers for inspiration.

Dreams can come true.

What can you say about your product or service that reinforces that message? A great example of this during a 60 second presentation was given by the financial adviser for BNI Shore City chapter, Ian Milligan (Financial Success Group),  when he told the meeting that five of his clients were currently holidaying overseas – a case of good financial advice making the travel dream possible.

Tell us a story.

During my own 60 second I often tell the story of Elias Howe who invented the sewing machine, but ended up living in borrowed suits his whole life even though he had one of the most unique and revolutionary products ever invented. His business failed because he didn’t know how to market or how to get his message across. It’s a poignant story, but very relevant to the point.

Challenge common assumptions.

BNI Shore City Mortgage Broker Christine Lockie (LoanPlan), often makes the point that a good mortgage isn’t necessarily about the lowest rate.

Rather it is about your current situation. For example, if you are the sole breadwinner on a variable income the current low floating rates or short term fixed rates may not be your best option after all, because interest rates will rise and could catch you out. Her advice is to fix longer term on a competitive rate – while fixed rates are still low – to give yourself certainty going forward.

For a good 60 second presentation, ask yourself how your product or story can make dreams come true, challenge common assumptions or simply tell us a story that illustrates your point.
