Light Bulbs

by BNI New Zealand

idea.jpg  When Greenpeace New Zealand started promoting use of the Ecobulb last year – I wrote to them to ask them if they had any concerns about the fact that they contain mercury.  Unfortunately I did not get a reply – however the following link contains an informative – and somewhat amusing background to the issue regarding the use of these energy efficient light bulbs.

Great clip Graham… … rather than focussing on the real issue; which as Mr Poe says is “finding new sources of affordable energy”… our attention is on lightbulbs !! …A great example of bureaucracy at its worst!

Graham;
We have the same issue here in Ontario.It will be the law in this province to have these bulbs by2012. I believe they present a hazard and all the implications have not been fully discussed.

They are gaining popularity all over the world – Europe is going the same way. I have no idea how serious an issue the mercury content is – however even if the directions as to how to dispose of them proves to be over the top – one cannot help wondering what the cumulative effect of putting mercury into landfill is going to be.
