Growing global connections at BNI locally

by BNI New Zealand

At one time or another most BNI chapters have invited, or had someone attend a meeting, from overseas. We’re a global organisation represented by chapters throughout the world. Though different countries, we share a common set of values and goals. With over 200,000  members in 7,500 plus chapters worldwide, we are the world’s leading referral organisation.

It’s always a great idea for chapters to host visiting overseas BNI members where possible, to learn about how your own chapter can do things differently and grow stronger.   Foreign visitors don’t have to be BNI members either to have a positive BNI experience, as one Wellington member discovered.

A visitor from France

Recently Don McLean from BNI Wellington Harbour City, hosted a business supplier’s family member. 19 year old Anne-Laure Vigreux is studying international business in France and was invited to New Zealand for 2 months. Her qualification is marketing based and to help her understand better about growing a business through networking Don wanted to introduce her to BNI.

The visit offered her an opportunity to learn about building a business by making contacts and sharing referrals. She was warmly welcomed to the chapter– one member even did their 60 seconds in French! Once she returns to France, now she has experienced BNI first-hand, she’ll promote BNI to her family and colleagues as she realises the value of the organisation for meeting people and growing your network.

Global connections

It also illustrated the fact that BNI is an international organisation. We encourage other members to invite people from overseas to visit their chapter. Why exactly?

  • By creating stronger global connections, your chapter can learn about business opportunities that may be available internationally.
  • You may even get a referral or two!
  • You can learn about the business environment and culture in another country.
  • International guests are always very grateful to connect with the local business community and learn how we do things in BNI New Zealand.

BNI connect

Remember you can always connect with other international BNI members through BNI Connect. BNI Connect is a powerful new online technology that is being incorporated into the BNI programme. This online technology is called BNI Connect and its purpose is to integrate face-to-face networking with a comprehensive online networking support system. Talk to your BNI Support Team if you have any questions about connecting with BNI Connect.
