This is a 2-3 minute exercise. What you say is in bold, the rest are instructions for you on the what and how of the workshop.

Start by saying…

This morning we are going to examine how effective your business cards are. So please take out one business card.

Now I want you to get up – when I say go – and talk to two other people.

You are to look at their business card and tell them one thing about their card that in your opinion doesn’t work. One thing that could be improved.

You have 90 seconds – GO!

When the 90 seconds is up get them to sit down and ask 3 members, by name, to answer this question in 20 seconds…

What was the one thing that in your opinion didn’t work about the two cards you looked at?

When that feedback is finished say the following…

We all know our business card is one of our most important marketing tools so here are a few suggestions on how to make them work best for you.

1. Contact details need to be simple and easy to find – phone, email and postal address are the basics..

2. Email addresses like “info@” and “admin@” are impersonal – use your first name – ALWAYS.

3. Remember it is a name card first and foremost – if people can’t read your name you have wasted an opportunity – make it 2 point type and in the centre of the card.
