Growing importance of trust may be behind local surge in networking

by BNI New Zealand

Press Release

From: BNI Motueka

26 October 2010

The recent launch of BNI Motueka – a local group of small business owners who meet weekly to pass business referrals to each other – points to the fact that ‘trust’ is becoming increasingly important to businesses.

Currently with 15 members, BNI Motueka is the latest of three referral networking groups launched in the Nelson region alone this year, which is more growth in one year than the organisation as seen in the region ever.

Motueka chapter president and local businessman and photographer, Oliver Weber, says several members were unfamiliar with BNI, and were sceptical at first.

“Once they understood how it worked, they became quite passionate about it. Word of mouth is the way of life here anyway, and BNI offers a great opportunity to enhance and support the connections that already exist,” he said.

The chapter is looking for more members, including an IT support company, a commercial painter, architect, printer, property manager and event planner.

“We’re a tight-knit group well engaged with the local community, and we have fun. Members have commented that BNI has opened their eyes to other local businesses and services that they didn’t know existed, or that they didn’t completely understand and appreciate,” said Oliver.

BNI Motueka meets at noon on Tuesdays at the Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park on 10 Fearon Street. Anybody who would like to visit to see what it’s all about is welcome to call Oliver on 03 970 0020 or email ♫

owp@me.com.

They can also contact the local regional director Craig Lawson on 03 548 9805.
