I have no idea how serious an issue the mercury content is – however even if the directions as to how to dispose of them proves to be over the top – one cannot help wondering what the cumulative effect of putting mercury into landfill is going to be.

We have the same issue here in Ontario.It will be the law in this province to have these bulbs by2012.  I believe they present a hazard and all the implications have not been fully discussed.
