Are you up for the challenge of living every moment BNIers?

by BNI New Zealand

Hospice Awareness Week is coming up from 15-21 May and we have a challenge for chapters throughout the country. Hospice’s philosophy is ‘living every moment’ and we’d love to see our chapters participating in this by dressing up for the weekly meeting during Awareness Week.

Put your costume on

How you dress up is up to you but it would be great to see people dressing in costume (doesn’t have to be elaborate) to show members how you live every moment outside work. If you love fishing, put on your fishing gear. If you play tennis, dress up like Roger Federer. It’s up to you and your chapter to decide how you want to mark the week but it would be great to see people participating in a fun way to mark an important occasion.

Why Hospice?

New members may not be aware of BNI’s long relationship with Hospice New Zealand. BNI New Zealand is a national partner to Hospice New Zealand and so far, chapters around the country have raised over 1.4 million for hospices. This has come from large annual fundraisers like the Nurse Maude Black Tie event in Christchurch right through to smaller fundraising occasions where gold coin donations are made regularly at meetings

Common values

As you’ll know from previous years, Hospice Awareness Week is an opportunity for hospices to profile and celebrate the services they provide in their local communities, to address misconceptions that people may have around hospice care and to encourage the New Zealand public to support their local hospice.

BNI and Hospice

Hospice New Zealand is BNI’s selected charity as its philosophy is compatible with BNI’s culture of Givers Gain®. Both organisations share values of people connecting with people and developing relationships based on trust.

Take time to reflect

While a national challenge to our chapter members to dress up and donate a gold coin to your local hospice is fantastic, if you don’t have the time to get this underway, just encouraging people to take a moment to reflect during the meeting about what it means to be “living every moment” would still be awesome and help to raise awareness of what Hospice is all about.

If chapter members would like to show how they are ‘living every moment’, share your dress up pics with us via your BNI Facebook pages to help promote Awareness Week you can also send them in to be added to the national BNI Facebook Page. They’d make such great stories and hospices could ‘share’ the pics from their local chapters to help raise awareness of our partnership too. You can let us know if you have anything special planned for Hospice Awareness Week by letting your Director Consultant know, message us on Facebook or email us on info@bni.co.nz

Use this week as an opportunity to step back and think about what living every moment means to you.
