Answers to NZ members 3 biggest questions about Thank You For Closed Business

by BNI New Zealand

One of the big leap forwards this year was introducing the BNI Connect App. This App is about making all the basic functions we do at BNI far simpler. This includes showing appreciation for the referrals you receive by passing the Thank You For Closed Business (TYFCB) for the member who gave the referral to you.

thank you

‘Appreciation’ is an imperative word. This extends to how you recognise your workers/staff as SMBs, as well as individually by increasing your fellow BNI member’s profile and visibility within the chapter through noting TYFCB. Surrounding TYFCB we’ve had a few questions recently about how this is recorded through the BNI Connect App.
Here are answers to the top 3 questions:

Why is the Slip I passed on the App not showing?

The figures on the My BNI Business page within BNI Connect and the dashboards within the App are updated only after each PALMS report has been submitted by the VP. This means that each time an online slip is passed it can take a week or so for the information passed to appear on these totals and in the final chapter statistics/reports.Any slips that are passed after the close of your weekly meeting will be automatically added to a new PALMS record for the following week’s meeting. So, if you pass a slip after the meeting, you’ll then need to wait until that PALMS record is closed off by the chapter VP at least a week later, before the numbers will appear on your member dashboard figures.

Who gets to see my TYFCB information?

Traditionally when TYFCB was first being discussed, privacy was raised as an issue. It is therefore designed not to publicly record WHO is saying thank you (i.e. we do not ask you to disclose how much a referral generated for you). So, on the original paper slips, you stated who gave you the referral and the amount – with none of your own details when you passed TYFCB (i.e. your privacy was maintained).

With technology, we are now able to reproduce this whilst also recording for each member their own private record of the revenue they have received through referrals at BNI. Through BNI Connect and now with the BNI Connect Mobile App each member can now see an additional figure, their Revenue Received or Return on Investment (ROI). This information is private to each member through their own personal login and is not visible to other members, leadership teams or BNI Support representatives, thereby maintaining confidentiality.

How is the ‘Revenue Received’ figure populated?

Revenue Received is the business you have said thank you for through BNI Connect or the BNI Connect Mobile App. Any TYFCB that is passed via paper slip and entered by the VP does not populate this field.

When all members are recording electronically, we get the best analytical tools.

As a member if you are still unsure about how to record TYFCB, reach out to your Leadership Team or new member mentor. You may also like to watch this short video about how the online slips, mobile app and PALMS work together. This is especially helpful for those members on the leadership team.

As we move into the season of giving, it’s the perfect time to get on the BNI App and start showing appreciation to those in your chapter.
